it  is an 2018 sci-fiction film . it is the sequel of 2010 relelase film robot(hindi version) or enthiran( tamil version ). written and directed by S.Shankar and produced by subaskaran under the banner of lyca production in association with karan johar.

it is the first film in indian cimena to be directly shot in 3d.( means, earlier films used to be shoot in 2d then it is converted into 3d but 2.0 is directly shot with 3d cameras).
robot which is released in 2010 was a great success . after the success, makers decided to make a sequel in 2011. while shankar was busy in his other movies .so, it was not confirmed that fil will be made or not. but, later it is confirmed by the maker that film will be made.

after, this shankar held meetings with kamal haasan,aamir khan,vikram,hrithik roshan for dr. richard's role(pakshi raajan) . but nobody agreed to appear in the film.
then,the role is also offered to hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger , and he agrred to. but the deal was undone because he was demanding a lot of money for the role..

later, role is offered to akshay kumar and  he agreed to do the film. and later amy jackson also signed the movie in 2015.

an official launch is also organised on 12 dec,15 on rajnikanth' birthday for the film.

then film began to shoot from 16 dec,15 in chennai.
akshay kumar began the shooting in chennai in march 2016.
shooting was finally done on august,2017. 
music was given by A.R rahman , earlier shankar wanted to make the film without any songs. 

The teaser of 2.0 was released on Ganesh chaturthi, 13 September 2018, in both 3D and 2D.
 the film is released in 14 other languages with dubbed versions.

the film is estimated to be made around 545 crores inr. and has already recovered 370 crores from sattelite,digital and music rights.

In China, the film is set to release on 19 May 2019 in 10,000 theatres and 56,000 screens, in which 47000 screens are for 3d and rest is for 2d. the highest screens for any foreign film in the country.

2.0 is released in about 6900 screens in India and over 2000 screens overseas..
